Baby touches

You really wonder what is going on in their little heads...
Jayce has recently gotten into the habit of having to touch your skin. He always is holding my hand or touches my face or grabs my boob when feeding. When we are laying down together he really wants to be close, snuggled in my arms. I've really begun to love this closeness he needs. Even during the day if he can't reach my skin he grabs ahold of some part of my clothing. I know during these moments that I need to grant him this closeness as he really resents being put down in his crib or on the floor to play with toys. He senses the instant I am about to do that...not sure if he notices his surroundings enough or there is some vibe I am giving off but I no sooner make the action to put him down and he protests with a loud wail. It is sorta a sixth sense...kinda like Tabi. She knows exactly when it is claw clipping/tooth brushing time and she makes herself scarce. I actually feel bad manipulating her into thinking I'm going to comb her or give her water and then actually pick her up for the weekly torture...or at least she thinks so...especially since she has to get near that big man that lives in our house!

Little mitchelin boy and day care struggle

So Keith and I have been looking at day care options for Jayce as I start back to work part time next month. It is such a struggle for me as I really want to get back to work but I also do not want to leave Jayce in the hands of strangers. He's just so defenseless still and how do I know that he'll be taken care of...he can't tell me how his day went....were the other kids nice to him...did the teachers let him cry a lot....did he learn anything? But I guess this is a struggle that all new moms must go through. So we figured to only put him in one day a week to start and my mom and Keith will alternate taking care of him another day. This lets me get back to work two days a week and feel out how the day care is going and hopefully increase it to 3 days a week in a few months. Who knows I might miss the munchkin so much that I might be at stay at home mom! :) Very unlikely but you never know.
But since the little guy turns 3 months this week I figured I'd post his 3 month picture. Here is the chunky monkey in his awesome cloth diapers. For all of you that said I'd hate the cloth diapers, you are so wrong. They are not only awesome but damn cute too and so much more environmentally friendly!

Precious moments

So we finally celebrate Christmas with the Narrows yesterday. We were supposed to celebrate back in December but then Trey got sick, then we went down to Philly then to Georgia, and when we got back Keith had the shingles! So only a month later we got together. It was the first time that Trey and Jayce really saw each other. The last time, Jayce was still too little to really pay attention to his surroundings. So we had a blast...there are so many great pictures, mostly of them eating each other!...that I'm not sure which highlights to pick out to put on the web.

But first here is a picture of the proud Grandparents.

Then here are a few of the two of them.

I'm uploading the rest of the images to kodak and will post them a bit later in case you want to see more of the little buddies.

Playing with his toys.

Jayce is getting to be such a big boy! He finally has enough head control that he can play in the exersaucer and the jumper. He's only figured out one of the toys in the exersaucer but it is amazing to see his brain work...we showed him only a few times how the wheels turn and the other day I just put him in the seat and a few minutes later I heard the bells from the wheel turning. You can see him working so hard to get enough control over his hand so that it gets to the wheels and then move his hand just enough to make the wheels turn. It must be so much work for a 10 week old. It will be a few more months before he can really play with the toys but even a few minutes of entertainment is great.

Fifteen pounds!

Ok, so Jayce had his 2 month check up today and the bruiser is weighing in at 15 lbs! It seems like a lot but he's only in the 60th percentile for weight. Still in the 95th on height though. He was a trooper for his shots and they said he was doing fantastic on strength and motor skills, holding his head up, arm and leg strength, finger grasping, pull ups etc. So I guess Keith and I are doing some things right. I keep freaking out that I'm not giving him enough belly time and he'll learn to walk before he crawls (which we just learnt is very bad...and can lead to major motor skill issue later in life!) Oh all the things we need to worry about and he isn't even a teenager yet!

Back in CT

Jayce and I drove back to CT today as he has his 2 month Dr. appt tomorrow. Keith is doing much better and the shingles are starting to heal, so we are hoping that with Keith on recovery and Jayce on breastmilk that the little guy won't get the chicken pox, but only time will tell. The incubation period for chicken pox is 10-21 days so we still have a ways to wait before we know. We had fun in MA but it is good to be back home. It was really nice to have four extra hands (grammy & grampy) to help out. But Keith is working from home this week so he'll be around to help out while I transition back to being by myself and taking care of Jayce alone all week. :(

But here are a few words from the little guy.

Eating dinner out

I drove up to MA on Thursday to stay with my parents as Keith is sick with the shingles!... (and we didn't want Jayce exposed to potentially get the chicken pox.) But the story keeps getting better... Today my dad ran out of gas going to work this morning and my mom had to go rescue him, then my mom sliced through her pinky finger with a knife and needed to go to the ER. The only good thing that came out of all of this is that we got to hang out with my Memere today. She and Jayce had a grand time. He was in love with her house and she seemed to have the knack of keeping him quiet, from clapping her hands to tapping her feet. He loved the fan in her house and even the 60's style carpet. So it was a good day all in all and finally to end up the day my mom and I went out to dinner. This was Jayce's first dinner outing (as night time is his witching hour) and he slept through the whole dinner! This could be a huge step for Keith and I as we haven't eaten out since we brought Jayce home.

Happy New Year!

Just want to send out our wishes to everyone for a happy new year.

We just got back from our GA vacation to snow! ughh Love that New England living. It was fun wearing shorts for a few days. Jayce loved having his toes free...or maybe just Keith and I did. Gotta say I love baby toes; they are just so cute. We tried to get a hand & foot casting but we failed miserably....how we can design engine parts but not perform a foot casting I do not know! The plaster had dried before we put in his hand and then Keith tried to mush it back up and make it soft again but pretty much only proceeded to make a mess. It was a comedy show.

But our vacation went well especially the drive. Jayce pretty much slept for most of the time. On our way down and back we took off at around his 3:00 am feeding and he slept through until 7ish and then just woke up every 3-4 hours for a car seat stretch, diaper change & most importantly, to eat and then he fell back asleep once we started moving again. Only the last few hours of the trip each way was he restless and required entertainment to prevent meltdown Jayce. That was about the best we could ask for...and surprising he actually slept very well the night after the trip too! So I am glad that we drove...gave us more flexability, allowed us to bring Rosie and a bunch of entertainment items for Jayce....or maybe I should say I'm glad Keith drove...of the 30 or so hours on the road I only drove for a few hours so Keith could catch some zzz's. After 3 months of traveling 30 hours doesn't seem like much! Guess it is best to get the little guy accustomed to traveling now while he is little...who knows what adventures are in store for us!
