Jayce is still a complete doll to her. We got some video of him giving her a huge hug!

Almost washing dishes

So in our effort to save money Keith and I decided that the best date night (with two kids mind you) would be going out for ice cream (as we had a buy one get one free coupon for Friendly's). So we packed the car with two kids and Keith drove to Friendly's (Keith driving will be important later). After much decision making we ordered two sundaes for Keith and I and got a cup of soft serve for Jayce. After eating our fill, the bill came and I asked Keith for money. After two searches of his coat pockets and pants he came up empty. I of course didn't drive so I didn't bring my wallet. I frantically went out to the car to see if my purse was in it. Thankfully we had taken my car and my purse was inside so we could pay our bill. But could you imagine one of us would have to stay in Friendly's with two kids until the other ran home to get $$! So if you see Keith, razz him for taking his wife out on a date without his wallet.

Jayce

Jayce has been quite a character lately. He is apparently much smarter than we thought. His new word is "eh" followed by a finger pointing. You wouldn't think it was that bad except when it goes "eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh"...you get the point! Well this past weekend Keith and I put our foot down and decided that we weren't going to play the game anymore, either he was going to use sign language or words. We had a 15 minute battle of the wits over "all done" in his high chair after a few meals and now he's realized who is the boss. He signs "all done" after every meal and snack, he signs when he wants "more" of something and surprisingly he knows the words "milk" and "up"...he's just never bother to use them as "eh" was so much easier! So progress forward and our household is so much quieter without the 1000 "ehs" followed by complaining that he isn't getting what he wants!

After this recent bought of colds/flu/stomach bug....whatever you want to call it; Jayce has also decided to show us when he has "boogies" by making the following face. You gotta see it in action, but here is a picture.

Updated picture of Kaelyn

I know we haven't taken many pictures...but we've been busy!

Here is a picture of Kaelyn in the hospital from this past weekend. This is a much better picture than we had of Jayce when he was in the hospital I must say.
Everyone says that she looks like me....I can't tell myself but she definitely has different features than Jayce. First she does have tiny ears like me, a pointier nose than Jayce and she has monkey toes! They are so long. We are used to Jayce's stubby feet and this girl has long skinny Arline feet! :) Funny how two kids can look so different. I thought they looked alike in the u/s pictures but now they look so different to me.

Kaelyn is ok/Jayce is questionable

So it has been 48 hours for all of Kaelyn's cultures and they are all negative. Which means that our baby is just fighting a viral infection. She is still really conjested and I have to put saline drops in her nose every few hours to help her drain everything but if that is the worst thing wrong we are lucky. So hopefully during rounds today we will get discharged.

But my mom just called me and Jayce is getting sicker! He's been throwing up since last night. Poor little guy....and poor mom! Jayce can be such a bear when he is sick. So now we need to figure out how to go get him in this storm and bring him to the drs. Last thing I need is two kids to be trading illnesses! So we will have to do our best to keep them separated.

More updates later.

Baran babies & hospitals

This past week Jayce came down with some bug. At first we thought his runny nose was from his last 1st year molar coming in but after a few days he started spitting up a bit here and there and was getting cranky...so we figured it is probably something more. Luckily he never ran a fever so his body just delt with the sickness. Little Kaelyn though was not so lucky. Friday night she ended up running a fever of 100.9. Anything over 100 was a concern for the doctors since I had group B strep when she was born but b/c she came so quickly we never had time to get treated. The drs said that we had to watch her closely for the first month as she could come down with a serious infection. So off to the ER we went early Sat morning. They did all sorts of tests: blood, urine, nasal secretions & a spinal tap. Thankfully everything has come back negative so far, well except for the 15 minute meningitis scare! (The lab accidently misread her white vs red blood cell count and we were told that she was very sick...15 minutes later they came back in to tell us that everything is ok!....holy crap that was scary!) Her white blood count was high, indicating that she was fighting something but so far it seems to just be a viral infection as all the cultures have come back negative so far. She is still running a bit of a fever and continues to be congested but doing well otherwise. They have her on two sets of general antibiotics as a precaution but if everything continues to look ok by monday morning we can go home!

My mom has Jayce up in Massachusetts as it is just too hard to have him in the hospital. There are so many cool things to look at here that he ends up being such a handful. Plus there is no way Jayce will go down for a nap in such an interesting place, so Keith ends up going back and forth between the hospital & home.

We will keep you updated and please keep Kaelyn in your thoughts and prayers
