Happy 1st Birthday Jayce

For Jayce's 1st birthday he got to go to the Dr for his 1 year appointment which included a bunch of shots. He didn't mind the shots so much but he had to have blood taken for lead and amemia tests. The blood drawing was a horrible experience for him and for us! They basically pricked his finger and dropped blood drop by drop into a vial. It was horrible! He was screaming while Keith held him down. Oh my I hope we never have to do something like that again.

Nothing else too exciting for his birthday. Keith had to work all day and after Jayce's nap he and I ran errands all afternoon. He did play with a few new toys, one from Erica & Ray and the other from Mike & Courtney and some cardboard blocks that we bought him. This kid totally loves new things, they are interesting and a challenge for him to figure them out...then they get old but then again in a few months they get fun again. You never know what he's going to find to play with every day.

No cake or candles today...I did made some jello (dye free of course) and he enjoyed eating that. We'll have cake and celebrate in a few weekends when the family comes into town.

Bathrooms

Oh my our world right now is so crazy! We started embarking on the bathroom project about a month ago after what seems like forever wanting to do this project. Now that Jayce has outgrown the kitchen sink we really need a bathroom that he can use. So we are about 5 weeks into repair and only 1/2 way through one bathroom. It was so much more than we originally thought as go to find out our house was not built right...walls were not straight, floors were not supported correctly, so Ray spend the greater part of two weeks rebuilding the floor properly and straightening all the walls. Even today Keith and Ray took our our two sliding glass doors on our first floor and go to find out that they were not only not put in properly but they were NEVER insulated. So basically the reason our heating bills were through the roof is that air pretty much could just leak around our doors, we knew that something was wrong as in the winter our sliders basically ice themselves over and you have to break the ice in order to open the door. Never did we imaging it was that bad though. You never know what you are really getting when you buy a house. Plus true Keith and Taryn style we are way over the bathroom budget as we always pick the top end stuff. Cripes the towel bars in the guest bathroom were $70 each. Everything we found at Home Depot was such shoddy quality, Jayce even child-handled a bar in the store and it came off the display! So we decided that if this bathroom was going to last through two kids we better buy top end stuff! So now Keith and I have to look where we can cut back or start doing somethings ourselves. Things that we planned to do to help Ray out (and reduce our cost) just is not happening. The work we try to do just goes so slowly now that we have Jayce. The two of us can't get up and crank through a list of projects anymore. One of us can be effective while the other watches Jayce. So things take twice as long now, it gets kinda frustrating as our list of things to do this fall keep growing. Plus starting next week I have to go back to work full time as my family leave time is over! Which means even more work for the both of us as I won't have that free day to do laundry, clean the house and grocery shop etc. We'll just have to figure out how to make ends meet. I'm sure we're not the only people faced with these decisions in today's economy and I'm sure we aren't as bad off as some other people but they are still hard decisions to make.

Daddy's day

This is what happens on Daddy's day.

Looks like a lot more fun than Mommy's day.
I really love it that Keith gets the oportunity to stay home with Jayce a few times a month. I'm sure Jayce loves it too.

Fall Day

Today, amidst house projects Keith and I took Jayce to the local farm to do some pumpkin picking. We also visited the petting zoo and tractors while we were there. The tractors definitly topped the list as Jayce's favorite thing for the day. But I have to say the pumpkin painting brought out the best laughs in Keith and me. Jayce wasn't really sure if he should paint the pumpkin, himself, the paper or finally the deck. Here are a couple of pictures to enjoy, we'll post the rest later in the 1 year Kodak gallery.
